Imaging The World starts Training for new sites

On 6th September, 2021, a team from Imaging the World Africa and the Imaging the World Centre for Health Education Research and Innovation (ITW-CHERI) traveled to West Nile, at Adjumani General Hospital, to carry out a training programme in basic obstetric ultrasound and gynecological ultrasound that is is supervised by radiologists, sonographers and radiographers and gynecological ultrasound.

 The team was headed by the Director of Education at ITW-CHERI, Ms. Samalie Kageni, with Mr. John Kisandi, sonographer, and Mr. Picho Shadrack, in-charge for logistics, in attendance for the training. Nine (9) trainees attended the training from three (3) different Health Centres, namely: Nyumanzi Health Centre III, Ayilo Health Centre III, Pagirinya Health Centre III. The training lasted for two weeks and included active participation and enthusiasm amongst the trainees especially during the scanning sessions that always brought about a lot of excitement. The trainees attended both didactic and practical sessions using portable ultrasound machines to assess fetal wellbeing,  perform dating and evaluate the health of the pregnancy, as well as confirm wellness of the maternal kidneys. During these practical sessions, the trainees also performed limited gynecological ultrasound to evaluate a non-pregnant uterus and ovaries. A written exam and practical assessment were given to trainees to determine how much knowledge they had acquired throughout the two-weeks training. All trainees are to progress to the next level of supervised scanning at Adjumani General Hospital .
