Imaging The World Africa Looks to expand their obstetric ultrasound model

A Team from Imaging The World Africa (ITWA) traveled to the West Nile part of Uganda to assess different sites for expansion of the organization’s obstetric ultrasound model. Through a grant from African Academy of Sciences (with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) Grand Challenges Africa, ITWA will be able to implement the ultrasound programme into seven new sites in Uganda and three new sites in Malawi.  The team held several meetings with different stake holders, including the United Nations High Commission for Refugees Desk Officer for the Districts of Adjumani, Moyo and Obongi, a Medical Doctor from Medical Teams International, and the District Health Officer from Adjumani District. The host group welcomed the Imaging The World obstetric ultrasound services for the communities who desperately need these services. They pledged their support for a strong partnership that will foster expansion in the three districts of Adjumani, Obongi and Moyo.
The ITWA team held meetings with teams from the Prime Minister’s Office, Medical Teams international and The District Health Office. The team visited several Health Centre III’s, including Nyumanzi Health Center III. It was determined by all that the large population of both refugees and the host community would benefit from the obstetric ultrasound services.
