Imaging The World Celebrates Year of the Nurse and Midwife
With the rest of the planet, Imaging the World (ITW) and Imaging the World Africa (ITWA) celebrate 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. Almost half of the world’s 43 million health care workers are nurses and midwives. In under-resourced communities in countries like Uganda and Malawi, there may be fewer than 3 nurses to take care of thousands of people. Yet their role is extremely important as compassionate caregivers who bridge health facilities and the communities they serve. Through ultrasound education, ITWA empowers nurses and midwives to lead the fight against health care challenges, including complications of pregnancy. Ultrasound integrated into routine patient care is a critical diagnostic tool that helps nurses and midwives to take better care of their patients, especially in rural areas where advanced healthcare infrastructure is lacking. In this way, nurses and midwives give patients access to key health information that helps them get the appropriate treatment in time. ITWA-affiliated nurses and midwives have become leaders in their communities and advocates for policy change. Their impact is immeasurable. Please join us in thanking the nurses and midwives who make all the difference
