Syam Sarma, PhD

Syam is an entrepreneur and senior executive leader who launched and has grown companies in the US and internationally. As one example, Syam was a founder-partner and Board Member of a full-service clinical research services firm (CRO), where he grew the company to 200+ employees in 3 years; the company had a successful strategic exit.

In an advisory capacity, Syam has provided operational and management experience to a diverse set of clients in various market verticals. He has directed research teams, organized expert advisory panels and collaborated with opinion leaders.

Examples of Syam’s Professional / Advisory Activities:

  • Advisor to CEO; providing strategic guidance, access to early-stage financing, geographic expansion / new client acquisition for a B2B technology company.  

  • Advised on implementation of water treatment systems in oil & natural gas and other industrial applications to enhance end-user recycling for conservation and environmental benefit.

  • Advised NIH-funded research organization on mandated product commercialization to generate revenue and reduce reliance on public sector support. Effort included company reorganization, reconfiguration of products to address market need, and financing of the commercialization effort.

  • Prepared interactive decision-support models in various therapeutic areas to guide treatment decisions by health care providers and institutions (e.g., Kaiser Permanente); clients included major PhRMA firms such as GSK, Pfizer, J&J, Merck, as well as biotechnology companies.

  • Structured the research function for an oncology carve-out program and coordinated expert panel /advisory board development of evidence-based algorithms for patient care.
