Congratulations to Kelly Cunningham who presented her research project at the University of Vermont (UVM) research day today . Kelly's presentation topic was: Imaging the World: UVM Image Quality Study. This IRB-approved research protocol was designed to evaluate whether the ITW ultrasound protocols produce diagnostic quality images and whether they are are reliable and reproducible. During her presentation, Kelly described the project based on data collected in 2009-2010 by 14 UVM College of Medicine student volunteers at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care. Following in-depth training in the ITW protocols, the medical students generated 240 ultrasound studies in 3 days! This data is currently being analyzed and prepared for publication. It will also be compared to the results from the similarly designed Image Quality Study conducted in rural Uganda by the ITW team. Drs. Brian Garra (project PI) and Kristen DeStigter were her research supervisors for this project.
