ITW and team visiting from Malawi meet with Ugandan Reproductive Health Division

Today, the Imaging The World Africa team together with the visiting team from Malawi met Dr Mihayo of the reproductive health division, Ministry of Health Kampala, Uganda. The discussions centered on reproductive health issues in Uganda and Malawi. Both countries still have a high maternal mortality.

In Uganda, bleeding during pregnancy and during the postpartum period is the highest cause of maternal mortality. In Malawi, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia are now the leading causes of maternal mortality. Both countries are equipping midwives with skills to tackle the problem.

Equipping midwives with skills in basic obstetric ultrasound was discussed as a good innovation in the struggle against maternal mortality.
