Kristen's Trip to Uganda - Fall 2012 - Part 10

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATogether with Professor Michael Kawooya, a radiologist and the director of ECUREI, and supported by The Fineberg Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Philips Healthcare, McKesson Corp. and peerVue, we have been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Mengo Hospital to conduct a research outcomes study looking at the effect of ultrasound on maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. This project, designed by the ITW Outcomes Working Group, led by Matthew Rielly, has been underway since June 2012. In this photo, I am reviewing the patient consent process at Wesunire Health Centre III with Florence Babirye. Obtaining proper consent from patients is critical in any research that uses human subjects. Our ITW ”consent training module” was designed by Aida Arapovic, Sarah Comtois, and Mary Streeter at the University of Vermont/Fletcher Allen Health Care and meets the standards of the strict human subject research consent criteria used at the University of Vermont.
