An article, “Shake No Bake: A homemade ultrasound gel recipe for low-resource settings,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. The journal is the official publication of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

Dr Anjuli Cherukuri is the article’s lead author. She has been involved in a number of projects with Imaging the World and traveled to Uganda four times during her radiology residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

The article describes an easy alternative to commercial ultrasound gel for when the more expensive and potentially scarce commercial gel is not available. Dr Cherukuri’s gel recipe is made with locally found ingredients. This is an important option for health providers in low-resource settings who may not have access to the commercial gel to scan patients with critical obstetric or other conditions.
